As the impeachment hearings progress, the White House is trying to prevent people from testifying and ignoring subpoenas. The State Department told George Kent not to testify. Like Fiona Hill and Marie Yovanovitch, he testified anyway. Rudy Giuliani, The Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of Defense are all ignoring subpoenas. Mike Pence is not handing over requested documents but he has not been subpoenaed yet. All are arguing that the House committees don’t have subpoena powers unless the entire House votes on opening an impeachment inquiry. Let me be clear – no such requirement exists in the Constitution, federal law, or House rules. They’ve made it up entirely.
Failure to comply with congressional subpoenas was the second article of impeachment against Nixon.
Giuliani pressured Trump to hand over Fethullah Gulen to Turkey. Gulen is an imam with permanent US resident status. In 2016, Michael Flynn devised a scheme to *kidnap* Gulen and give him to Turkey. Flynn at the time was an unregistered foreign agent of the Turkish government.
